We all do a little home decoration and DIY each year, but there are always times when we consider a larger home improvements. This article covers a few of the bigger changes you can make to your home, and expands on a few things to consider when purchasing.
?Remember that larger building improvements have three factors and an end result. The three factors are price, functionality and appearance. The end result is its affect on your house price. If you install a larger home improvement without due consideration of price, functionality and appearance then you could damage your houses sale price.
?Hardwood Flooring
If you are looking to buy hardwood flooring then you must consider the style and color of hard wood, as it will have to suit the d?cor and style of your home. Other than that, you will have to choose between the durability and strength of one over the other, plus other technical details such as heat retention and resistance, its predisposition to expand or shrink and its life span. For all of these considerations it is probably better to go for engineered hardwood floors, as they do not have the problems that simple solid hard wood planks do.
?Drywall
Consider the finish first and put all other considerations second. The other considerations such as moisture resistance, strength and fire resistance do matter, but are not as much of a problem as choosing the wrong finish. Most modern dry wall is adequately strong, fire resistant and moisture resistant anyway.
?Tile flooring
This type of flooring is not applicable for most houses because despite looking out of place, it is simply not practical in some homes. You should seriously consider some form of granite tile flooring if you having under floor heating installed, as it retains and disperses heat very evenly.
?Kitchen and bathroom cabinets
Most people will add these when they decorate their bathroom or kitchen, because new cabinets look out of place surrounded by an aged d?cor. On the one hand, this makes decorating and buying Building Supplies a little easier as you can buy them all in bulk. On the other hand, the only way you are truly going to know what your newly decorated kitchen/bathroom and new cabinets will look like, is when they are up and installed. There are a great many choices for cabinets on the market, but this is one buying decision when has a three way split. You should balance cost, function and appearance with equal measure.
A walk in shower
These are not as difficult to install as they seem, and if you have a bathroom that is next to a bedroom then you can expand into a section of the bedroom and leave your bathrooms interior wall line untouched. Get a quote for installation from your local builder and plumber before you start looking for a walk in shower and enclosure. They are reasonably priced but do not restrict yourself to an enclosure. Three tiled walls, a base, a door and a watertight roof is all you need for a walk in shower.
