CARSON, Calif. - Vancouver coach Tom Soehn has witnessed just how dangerous the star-studded Los Angeles Galaxy are in front of the net.
Mike Magee scored a pair of goals, Robbie Keane had a goal and an assist, and the Galaxy beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0 on Saturday night.
"They're ruthless," he said. "When they get their chances, they put them away."
Keane assisted on Magee's goal in the 40th minute and finished a header in the 64th. Magee later added an insurance goal for the Galaxy's fourth win in five games.
Bryan Jordan had a pair of assists for MLS-leading Los Angeles (16-3-10), which stayed unbeaten in 15 home matches (10-0-5).
"When you're winning and scoring goals," Keane said, "it makes things easier."
Jordan sent a cross from the right side that allowed an unguarded Keane to flick home a shot with his head, giving him his second goal since coming to the U.S. from the Premier League on Aug. 15.
Keane went dashing to the sideline and flashed his trademark somersault celebration, much to the delight of the crowd.
"I think he's fit in from the first game," Galaxy midfielder David Beckham said. "He's great. He's a goal scorer."
Things haven't been as great for Vancouver (4-14-10), which sits last in the MLS standings in its inaugural season. After a 4-0 trouncing at home, which came prior to Keane's arrival, the Whitecaps have now been outscored by the Galaxy 7-0 in two meetings this season.
The loss dropped Vancouver to 0-11-5 in road matches, leaving them and Houston as the only two clubs yet to win away from home.
"That's something we need to overcome," Soehn said.
The Galaxy's two international stars played a hand in the first goal. Beckham started the sequence with a pass to Keane just to the left of the goal box. Keane spotted a charging Magee and played a through ball past a pair of defenders which Magee easily deposited around goalie Joe Cannon for Keane's first assist with the Galaxy.
Magee completed the scoring late in the second half when Jordan played another perfectly-placed cross that enabled Magee to redirect with his head. It was Magee's second two-goal outing of his career, this one coming six years to the date of the first.
Goalkeeper Josh Saunders preserved the Galaxy's 15th shutout of the campaign, which is two shy of matching the MLS record set by Kansas City in 2000.
"The whole group, they've been outstanding," said Galaxy coach Bruce Arena of his defense.
The Whitecaps had their best look on goal in the 32nd when Eric Hassli usied his left foot for a strike from steps inside the box that forced Saunders to dive across goal for the save.
Three minutes later, Camilo went down in the box amid contact with Omar Gonzalez. Despite heavy protest from Vancouver players, the referee did not call a foul and allowed the game to carry on.
The Whitecaps have one more chance to avoid going winless on the road this season. They travel to take on D.C. United on Oct. 12.
