New Bears coach in, Tice and 6 coaches out

New Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman has started the process of cutting ties with the old coaching staff by letting go offensive coordinator Mike Tice, receivers coach Darryl Drake, offensive line coach Tim Holt, linebackers coach Bob Babic, tight ends coach Mike DeBord, running backs coachTim Spencer and quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates.

Another league source told the Tribune every coach on fired head coach Lovie Smith's previous staff has been let go except for defensive backs coach Jon Hoke, who was not in the building when the other coaches found out their fates.

Trestman told reporters he sat down with defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, and Marinelli decided to move on. The Bears try to keep Marinelli on staff and offered a one-year extension, but Marinelli declined.

Safeties coach Gill Byrd, linebackers coach Bob Babich, defensive line coach Mike Phair, and nickel backs coach Mikal Smith also would be left to seek work elsewhere. Babich apparently has an interest in joining new Jaguars coach Gus Bradley in Jacksonville.

Special teams coordinator Dave Toub already left to take the same position in Kansas City under Andy Reid, while assistant special teams coach Kevin O'Dea has looked elsewhere, too.
