The Holidays are over. It?s cold outside but life is hectic and the snow?doesn?t?let you stop! There?s work and school, homework and sports. Gone is the togetherness of the school break, but you want to keep the family together time going, and make it count.
Enter Family Craft Night. It?s a great way to unwind after a long week of busy schedules. Gather the family for some fun, a hot meal and let memories be created! Kids of all ages love to be immersed in paint and glitter and glue. And it?s even better if their parents join in the fun!
?
?
Set the stage: Cover your table with white paper, newspaper, or even wrapping paper. (Ensure you have something to catch the mess so you?re not trying to clean up too much!)
Ready your crafts: Look around your house, the wrapping paper bin, and the bottom of your kids craft basket. I can bet you?ll be able to find a few good things you can make table and hanging crafts out of. Here are a few ideas:
?
?
Sparkling Snowflakes
Supplies needed:
Popsicle sticks or tongue depressors (available at craft stores)
Blue paint and paint brushes
Glitter
Glue
?
Paint four sticks with the blue paint. While the paint is wet, sprinkle with glitter. Let it dry for a few minutes and then glue the centers of the sticks together, making sure they are sticking out in a circle, like a snowflake. Let dry and place on a windowsill or wherever you need a little glittery snowflake!
?
?
Bead Bracelets
Supplies needed:
Pony Beads
Pipe Cleaners
?
Thread the beads onto the pipe cleaners. Once the desired pattern has been created, secure the ends of the pipe cleaner together by twisting, creating a circle or other fun shape (think hearts for Valentine?s Day!) to make a bracelet.
?
Other craft ideas:
- Make snowmen out of pinecones: paint pinecones white and add beads for eyes and a piece of an orange pipe cleaner for a carrot nose.
- CD snow garland: paint old CDs with a fine layer of glue and sprinkle with white and silver glitter. String up on a ribbon to hang in a window.
- Make glue snowflakes: use white glue to make snowflake patterns on wax paper. Sprinkle with glitter and wait for them to dry. Peel off and hang in a window.
?
?
After all that crafting, clear away the supplies and lay out some crayons on the table. Have the kids write what they are excited about this month. Snow? Seeing friends? Sledding? Or maybe they are looking forward to Valentine?s Day? Have them ?set? the evening table with words.
?
?Then, heat up a batch of the Marie Callender?s Vermont White Cheddar Mac & Cheese and you have a hearty meal that your family will love.
?
These simple ideas are easy to put together, easy to execute, and your family will treasure the memories. Why not make Family Craft Night a regular occurrence in your home? Little moments make a lifetime of memories. Take the time to savor you family, even amongst the busyness of life!
