Get a Hearing Test Before It's Too Late

There are some parents who go to great lengths to do what?s best for their children. However, in their quest to give them the better things in life, there are times that they make mistakes.

Susan loved her daughter Leslie. She did everything she could to protect her and keep her safe. However, there, were many times she made the mistake of being overprotective when it wasn?t necessary.

?Hi, Mrs. Jones, this is Leslie?s teacher Ms. Jackson,? said the teacher over the voicemail message. ?I am leaving a message because she?s the only student that did not turn in a form to get a hearing test. Please call me when you get a chance at 555-3378.

Susan was a little bit upset about the message that Ms. Jackson left on her phone. It wasn?t because Ms. Jackson came off as rude. However, she felt as if her decision making as mother was being challenged. Susan believed that her daughter didn?t need to get a hearing test and that her ears worked perfectly. So, in her eyes, this particular procedure was not necessary.

The next day, Susan went to the school. ?Yes Ms. Jackson, it?s just that I believe that I am more than capable of figuring out whether or not my daughter needs a hearing test,? said Susan. ?Thank you for your concern, but she is perfectly okay.?

Nearly 2 years had passed since the incident. Susan was in the kitchen cooking dinner and she called Leslie to come down to eat. Leslie didn?t answer. So Susan raised her voice a little louder, to see if that would work. However, she didn?t answer once again. Susan began to worry thinking that something might be wrong. So, she rushed upstairs to find her daughter watching television.

?Leslie, didn?t you hear me calling you and why is the television so loud??asked Susan.

She turned to her mother, a little startled. ?No, I didn?t hear you at all and I turned the TV up because I was having trouble hearing it,? said Leslie.

?Dear, is there something you?re not telling me?? asked Susan. ?Have you been having trouble with your ears??

After finding out that her daughter might have an impairment, she quickly made an appointment to see a local specialist for a hearing test.

?Well, it looks like your daughter does have some damage, which is making her have to struggle to hear certain things,? said the specialist.

?So, what does this mean?? asked Susan. ?Will she need a hearing aid??

?There?s a great possibility that she will,? said the specialist. ?I don?t mean to sound insensitive, but from the looks of things, if you had gotten her a hearing test, a couple years back, the problem could have been alleviated.?
