?Fughts venons: Antivenin activity of melanin extracted from tea was reported for the first time in 200413. Low toxicity in combination with its antagonistic activity against different venoms may allow effective life-saving treatment against snakebites.

Improves cardiovascular health: Drinking either green or black tea regularly may help to protect against cardiovascular disease14 and reduce the risk of stroke15. The research showed that tea consumption improves blood vessel reactivity, reduces blood pressure, unhealthy LDL and cholesterol. In addition, tea has been found to increase the healthy HDL cholesterol levels and help prevent atherosclerosis, thus promoting overall cardiovascular health.

Prevents uterine fibroids: Green tea extract shows promise as a treatment for uterine fibroids. Uterine fibroids, which affect 40 percent of women of reproductive age, cause excessive vaginal bleeding, anemia, fatigue and lack of energy. Currently, hysterectomy is the only treatment option. Recent studies show that green tea extract can kill human leiomyoma cells in tissue cultures and can eradicate fibroid lesions in lab animals, giving hope to millions of women to find a possible treatment16.

Reduces pneumonia: It has been shown that drinking just one cup of green tea a day can reduce the risk of pneumonia. Results seem to suggest that compounds contained within green tea have the capability of countering viruses, but further studies are required17.

Reduces risk of diabetes: Many studies have been conducted to examine the antidiabetic effects of drinking green tea, with a high intake of tea can helping to reduce the risk for type 2 diabetes. Animal studies also suggest that green tea can help prevent the development of type 1 diabetes and slow its progression if it has already developed. It?s been suggested that EGGG can mimic the effects of insulin, increasing the body?s ability to metabolise glucose and help to keep blood sugar levels normal. In addition, green tea appears to increase fat metabolism and prevent obesity, which is helpful because obesity sets the stage for diabetes18.

Fights glaucoma:Scientists have confirmed that certain antioxidants in green tea are absorbed by the lens, retina, and other eye tissues, suggesting that presence of catechins, including EGGG, can prevent oxidative damage and stop development of glaucoma and other eye diseases19.

Relieves allergies: New evidence suggests that drinking green tea may provide some relief to allergy sufferers. Researchers identified that EGGG can block a key cell receptor, thus preventing the production of histamine and immunoglobulin E (IgE), two compounds in the body that are chiefly involved in triggering and sustaining allergic reactions. Although it?s not been proven in humans, but if it works, green tea may be useful against a several allergens, including pollen, dust, pet dander and certain chemicals20.

In conclusion, although not all benefits have been proven to work in humans, certainly drinking three or more cups of tea a day is as good for you as drinking plenty of water and may even have extra health benefits. A study suggests ?Drinking tea is actually better for you than drinking water. Water is essentially replacing fluid. Tea replaces fluids and contains antioxidants so it?s got two things going for it.?21
