Oscar Isaac set for 'Still I Rise'

Exclusive: "Sucker Punch" star Oscar Isaac is set to play the male lead in Walden Media's drama "Still I Rise," which will be released stateside by 20th Century Fox.Isaac's reps had no comment on the casting. Inspired by America's current education crisis, pic stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis as two frustrated mothers who team up to transform an inner-city public school.Isaac will play Michael Raymond, a sexy, ukulele-playing teacher who helps inspire, challenge and romance Gyllenhaal's character throughout the film.Daniel Barnz ("Beastly") is directing from an original script by Brin Hill, which the helmer then rewrote. Mark Johnson is producing through his Gran Via Prods. banner, and production is scheduled to start next week in Pittsburgh. Walden Media's Michael Bostick and Morgan Palmer will oversee the project.Isaac, who recently tested for the lead role in Tony Gilroy's "The Bourne Legacy," will soon be seen alongside Ryan Gosling in Nicolas Winding Refn's "Drive," which has been one of the more buzzed-about titles at Cannes. Thesp also stars in Madonna's romantic drama "W.E" and co-stars in the Channing Tatum-produced high school reunion drama "Ten Year," which sees him perform a song that he wrote specifically for the film.Isaac is repped by UTA and Inspire Entertainment.
