It?s been 214 days since Eli Manning and the New York Giants upset Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XVI, but the long and torturous wait is over. Starting today, FOOTBALL IS BACK, BABY, as the G-men are set to usher in the 2013 season against Jerry?s ?boys.
Besides ?Bountygate?, the great Peyton Manning-Tim Tebow saga and a myriad of other off-the-field storylines, there were plenty of notable free-agent transactions that went down this offseason. As a result of said transactions, we had a number of players with filthy-rich new contracts engaging in various transactions of their own ? real estate transactions, that is. In a salute to the start of the NFL season, REALTOR.com brings all the offseason action from the NFL home buying (and selling) front.
Cortland Finnegan ? St. Louis Rams
Finnegan inked a five-year, $50 million contract with the St. Louis Rams in March, but the former Titans cornerback hinted that his time in Tennessee was coming to a close nearly a month prior when he listed his Brentwood, TN home.
Listed for $1.4 million, Finnegan?s massive estate measures 7,718-square-feet in size and was once featured in an episode of CMT Cribs. It includes a total of five bedrooms and five bathrooms, with luxe touches ranging from coffered ceilings to wood flooring to a heavy use of marble throughout the home. Finnegan?s property also boasts amenities o? plenty, including a custom theatre, an elevator, and a balcony sitting area complete with a fireplace and fountain.
Matt Flynn ? Seattle Seahawks
The former Aaron Rodgers backup made waves at the end of last season when he set Green bay team records for passing yards (480) and touchdowns (6) in a wild 45-41 victory over Detroit. Flynn parlayed his epic performance into a big-time contract this offseason, inking a three-year, $19.5 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks.
The Seahawks new QB appears to have settled into the Pacific Northwest nicely after shelling out $1.225 million on a contemporary lodge-style home in Issaquah, WA. Set on nearly seven acres, the 5,800 square-foot luxury home is loaded from top to bottom, but the real primetime feature is an awesome outdoor living deck complete with skylights, a fireplace and panoramic mountain views.
Vincent Jackson ? Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jackson traded SoCal for Cigar City this offseason when he inked a five-year, $55 million contract with Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former San Diego Chargers wideout will start the year opposite Mike Williams and is expected to provide quarterback Josh Johnson with a sorely needed deep threat.
With those mega-millions burning a hole in his pocket ? Jackson?s contract will play him $13 million in each of his first two years ? the Bucs? No.1 receiver spent $3.45 million on a prime golf course property in Tampa, FL. Measuring over 9,500-square-feet in size, Jackson?s crib boasts All-Pro amenities like a private office, study with a wet bar, bonus master suite and a latticed lanai.
Curtis Lofton ? New Orleans Saints
In the wake of the ?Bountygate? investigation, New Orleans moved quickly to secure Curtis Lofton, one of the top free-agent linebackers on the market. The former Atlanta Falcons player received a five-year, $33 million contract from the Saints and is tasked with replacing Jonathan Vilma, who was suspended for the year for his involvement in the scandal.
Following the signing, Lofton wasted little time in putting his Suwanee, GA home on the market. Listed for $450,000, the 3,200 square-foot home features a billiards area, fitness center, theater room and wet bar.
Marshawn Lynch ? Seattle Seahawks
Lynch, fresh off a Pro Bowl year, cashed in in a big way this offseason after coming to terms on a new contract with the Seahawks that will keep him in Seattle through 2016. The Skittles spokesman and ?Beast Mode? aficionado is set to earn a total of $31 million over the course of the deal, including $18 million in guarantees.
While Lynch?s stay in Seattle was extended, the Oakland native opted to invest in Bay Area real estate, ponying up a whopping $3.6 million on a 7,000 square-foot waterfront estate in Richmond, CA. Pristine bay views are on full display thanks to an excessive use of glass windows and panels, while Lynch?s new crib also sports its own elevator, theater room, wine cellar, and a 58-foot dock.
Carl Nicks ? Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Nicks turned four years of service protecting Drew Brees into a five-year, $47.5 million contract with the Buccaneers this offseason. The decorated guard, who earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro bids in each of the past two seasons, stands to net at least $30 million guaranteed over the life of the deal.
With his ticket to Tampa punched, Nicks turned around and made a pair of real estate moves, first listing his New Orleans home (bottom) for $390,000 and then turning around and buying an 11,000 square-foot mansion (top) in Odessa, FL for $2.65 million.
Ray Rice ? Baltimore Ravens
With a new $40 million contract in hand, Ray Rice can afford the finer things in life ? which is probably why the Ravens? Pro Bowl tailback recently put his modest Baltimore, MD townhouse on the market. Listed for $339,000, the townhome measures 2,100-square-feet in size, with a total of four bedrooms and four bathrooms.
Laurent Robinson ? Jacksonville Jaguars
Robinson?s breakout year in Big D ? the wideout led the way among Cowboys receivers with 11 touchdown receptions ? earned him a fat five-year, $32.5 million contract compliments of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The 6-foot-2 receiver wasted little time finding in finding new accommodations, spending $1 million on a 4,156 square-foot home in Jacksonville roughly a month after inking his big deal. Robinson?s four-bedroom, five-bathroom Mediterranean home sits on a private waterway and features a covered lanai with an outdoor kitchen, pool and spa, a built-in entertainment system and something called a ?g-man bug system.?
Wes Welker ? New England Patriots
With his status after this season in question, Welker put his Boston, MA townhome on the market in July. The Patriots All-Pro, fresh off of a 122-catch, 1,569-yard season, had hoped to secure a long term pact from New England, which still may happen, but in the meantime, Welker will have to settle for the $9.5 million franchise tender.
Welker?s property in question, a 2,375 square-foot penthouse, includes a total of three bedrooms and three baths, including a master suite complete with a balcony and a sitting room with a wet bar. And if that?s not enough to we your whistle, jump on the the $2.75 million home?s elevator and head up to a private roof top deck, complete with unparalleled views of downtown Boston.
