After tackling a few home improvement projects and mastering a table saw, you might think your woodworking skills are pretty solid. But Reddit user rsch, who built a beautiful canoe out of wood, seriously impressed us with his handiwork.
Since it was his first attempt at building a boat (he says he's only made paddles before), it included a significant amount of trial and error, along with careful attention to detail. And, over 200 hours of labor.
But the end result, a 49-pound, one-person canoe, was completely worth every minute of time. This gorgeous boat is made out of cedar and covered in fiberglass and epoxy and sprayed with varnish to give it a very professional and clean look. The total cost was just under $1,200, as opposed to the average price of a boat like this, which he says is between $5k-$8k.
Unfortunately, he might not get much use out of it right now. But once springtime rolls around, he'll be able to show off this one-of-a-kind, handmade work of art. Check out the slideshow below to see photos of the building process and the final product.
